This time I’m going to introduce you to someone who took the name “Sri Lanka” to a whole another level. After being chosen as the Pulse Offmarks Miss Earth Sri Lanka 2018, she contested in the Miss Earth 2018 held in Philippines. She is 21 years old and she is an engineering student. She is someone with many talents. Let’s see what she has got to say.
Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself
“I’m Nathasha Fernando and I’m from Ragama, Sri Lanka. I’m 21 years old. I went to Good Shepherd Convent, Colombo 13. I’m just an ordinary girl with an ordinary life but I always make sure to live pushing myself outta the boundaries!”
Q: What made you apply for this contest?
“I always liked modeling, even in my childhood. Sometimes I dress up myself and walk around the house just to make myself happy. That much I loved modeling, but because of my studies I never got the chance to follow my passion professionally. For straight two years I was following my degree which kept me in the home most of the time. But then one day I came across this Instagram post by Pulse which gave me an opportunity to participate in the Miss Sri Lanka Earth 2018, and with the approval of my parents I applied for the contest, which came out great for me”
Q: Was it challenging for you?
“Since it was my first professional experience it was a huge challenge to me. We all had to stay focused and build up our confidence. Because when we go out there we know that everyone is going to look at us, it doesn’t matter if we are going to win or loose. It’s about having confidence about yourself no matter what the outcome is. Also being positive and learning how to work with a team of strangers (who are not strangers anymore) are things I learnt from participating in this contest”
Q: Tell me about the experience you had when you were in Philippines
“As I mentioned in my Instagram posts, it was simply amazing! Its was a once in a lifetime experience; where empowering women from all around the world unite for a great cause! it was great to meet bunch of empowering women who has the same mindset, who uses their voices and stood up to make the world a better place!”
Q: Tell me about the experience you got by participating in this contests?
“I got to know about different cultures, amazing experiences, conflicts and gained knowledge from all around the world! I’m blessed to be part of the sisterhood that we made! And I have to make something clear! Miss earth is not just about modelling! This pageant is one of the Top Four international beauty pageants and Miss Earth is mostly concern about promoting environmental awareness and it carries many other responsibilities as well!”
Q: Who is your inspiration?
“I can’t say my inspiration is this specific person! Because I always tend to learn something from anyone whom I come across in day today Life! If there’s something I can take outta them to improve myself for better I’ll surely do!”
Q: What are your future plans?
“I’m looking forward to advocate awareness on a better environment, try to be a role model to the younger generation by advocating for mental health, confidence and self-love and also to continue with my studies!”
As you all can see there are many talented individuals around us, and it’s about time we give them the recognition they deserve. It doesn’t matter what path they are following, if it’s something inspiring to others, then we should definitely admire the work they are doing.
