Welcome to a new “Get to Know” feature. This time I’m going to introduce you to one of the leading and rising artists in Sri Lanka. He has been doing this for a long time. And his talent is out of this world. Here’s what he had to say during the interview I did with him.
Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself
“Im Miyuru Eranda. I’m 24 years old and I’m a digital illustrator. I studied at Colombo Ananda college under art subjects. I’m more known as Miyu Comics because of my drawings”
Q: When did you start drawing and why?
“I’ve been drawing since the kindergarten. But mostly I got involved with arts when I was in grade 4. Once I finished my studies I started working on a game developing company and then i discovered this new method of drawing, which is ‘Digital Painting’. From there onwards I followed various artists, I was trying to explore more. But then I realized the best way for a better digital painting is to find my own art style. So I developed my own style and methods to make up what we all are seeing today”
Q: Do you work somewhere else or is this your full-time job?
“I’m working in full time at Arimac Lanka company as the Director of Arts and CEO as at MIYU Comics”
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
“Biggest inspiration is Bob Ross. He is not a digital artist or there are no any connections for what I draw. He mostly draws Sceneries on canvas using oil painting. His philosophy and his scope of viewing the world is what inspires me. “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents”
Q: What’s the most challenging part in your work?
“Time management is the biggest challenge I face each and every day. But in the end I always manage to provide our clients a higher quality product right on the time, In this industry managing time and providing the end product to the customer is always important. That’s what makes your art more great”
Q: Who are your biggest supporters?
“My mother is the biggest supporter I have. She is always there for me on every moment in my life, and she is biggest reason for the person I am today. Also Mr. Chamira Jayasinghe from Arimac Lanka company, Singer Lahiru Perera & Lakshan Edirisinghe from Prime media company has always been a huge support for me. Also my buddies Kasun (Animator) & Nadun (Video Editor) play two huge roles supporting and working with me. My biggest gratitude goes towards these people, for always being there for me.
Q: What are your future projects and plans?
“We’re currently working on a 2D animated short film with a great crew of Charitha Attalage, Ravi Jay, Supun Perera, Anuskha Udana, Asadithya team and Chamika. And we’re working on our upcoming comic book ‘Jayasena’ as well, which we have planned to release on end of 2019 also few other music videos are on work in progress as well. So I would say there’s a lot happening around, so keep in touch with us”
Q: What is your advice for young starters in this career?
“Never give up. It’s really difficult to start up as an artist in Sri Lanka. There are so many obstacles. Some people always want to drag down anyone who is climbing to the top. Never do any art to manipulate or damage anyone’s thoughts, feelings or any religion. Keep on practicing. You will get there in no time”
